UPDATE - January 2005 - After four years of inactivity, and an endless amount of questions regarding the LRs on this site, I've decided to resume adding information and pictures here, as I find them. As I've said countless times, I don't know the status of the vehicles featured below, but what I learned from my original search is that it's worth looking. They do exist out there. Most of them aren't on the road - they're waiting patiently for a good home, a bit of TLC, and the right fanatic......er, I mean, owner. I dug up my own leads to find LRs. Just drove around, asked whoever I encountered, and hit paydirt a bunch of times. Its amazing how many people know of one, sitting in someone's yard, field or barn. All it takes is persistence, patience and curiosity. Feel free to email me. I may not own a Land Rover, but I'm still a fan. Good luck.
Posted here are pictures and descriptions of some of the Land Rovers I've
found on Vancouver Island and the smaller Gulf Islands. Some of these
Landys are for sale - some aren't. Unfortunately, the owners of most
of these rigs are somewhat hard to track down, so I don't have contact info
on them - I only know where they are.
1959 Series II 88" and 1953 Series I SWB. Both have been sitting for at least 10 years and are complete. The '59's engine is seized and the frame is probably beyond repair. The '53 is another parts candidate.
Series I LWB Pickup frame - not sure if this is a 107" or a 109". No drivetrain, not really any useable body pieces - but the frame appears to be rust free.
1963 Series IIA. Frame looks repairable. Engine has been partially dismantled.
Series II or IIA (not sure) 88". Pickup cab and canvas top hoops. Frame is rusty, but might be repairable.
Series II (A?) 109" 2-door station wagon. Frame is completely shot, roof is good. Has overdrive and a Koenig PTO Cable Winch. 4cylinder engine.
Series II (A?) 109" 5-door station wagon. 6 cylinder engine.
Jim Blair's Series III daily driver.
Stephen Ford's project. Series I SWB.
This '69 Series IIA 88" is also his - he plans to swap in the engine and rear end.
1954 Series I SWB - This one has a BMC engine and transmission transplant. Not for sale yet.
1957 Series I SWB pickup - One of the best examples of a Series I I've seen on the island. not for sale.
1960 Series II - This truck was driven across the continent, shipped to Europe, was driven around Europe, then came back to be driven back across the continent. The owner plans to restore it.
Series I 109" PU - Another unobtainable vehicle. Under the dust, there's a Series I in very good, original condition.
Early Series I 80" - This truck has been sitting in the same exact spot for more than 5 years. I asked the owner about it in '94, but he had plans to restore it then, and still does, I guess. Hope he gets to it before it sinks into the earth.
